About the Department

The Department was established in the year 1984. B.Lit. Tamil was started in the year 2006. The department offers M. A Tamil, M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Tamil. There are 22 faculty members in the department. 13 of them are doctorates and 4 are pursuing Ph.D. 12 of them have completed UGC-NET and SET. Our students secured 40 university ranks until now. 7 students have completed UGC NET and have joined as Lectures in our college and other colleges.

The creative team of teachers motivate the students to achieve high standards, with an aesthetic sensibility and to enhance their linguistic skills.

Department Highlights

Best Arts Department award 2022 & 2023

Best Department Award of maximum no of participants participated the competitions from KurnjiKabilar Tamil Sangam.

Most of the Staff members have received many awards from various Institutions.

Many of the Teachers are members of many Tamil organizations such as Kulithalai Tamil Peravai, Sangam Literature Study Center, Thanikai Tamil Sangam.

Every year Muthamizhvizha is conducted by the department. This is a forum for students of all colleges to showcase their talents in literature (elocution andessay writing), poetry, music (both carnatic, and folk, vocal and instrumental)and drama. Students from all colleges in and around Trichy participate in these competitions and win cash awards.

The department conducts talent hunt competition for all the 1st year student of the college every year.

The Department of Tamil signed MOU with America MuthamizhIlakkiyaPeravai, America. Both jointly conducted International Conference in the year 2022-2023 & 2023-2024.

Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and Dinamalar join hands in conducting TVR memorial oratorical competition for both school and college student. We send our students to undervent the internship in Dinamalar.

The department has published two books named Mouval in 2020 and Manichiral in 2017. All members have contributed chapters for the books.

Final PG students are given coaching for NET / SET.

UG and PG students are coached for TNPSC Group Exams every year.

Workshops can be conducted with the best instructors in Journalism,Archaeology and Mass Communication.
