Overview

The Department of Tamil Studies is dedicated to preserving and advancing Tamil, one of the world's oldest classical languages, while connecting its rich literary and cultural heritage with contemporary knowledge. Through the study of classical and modern literature, grammar, linguistics, translation, ecocriticism, and interdisciplinary research, the Department develops students' critical, analytical, and creative skills. Faculty and students actively engage in research, translation, traditional knowledge documentation, ecological studies, and innovative teaching practices, preparing graduates for careers in research, teaching, writing, translation, and public service.
