The National Service Scheme of the college strives to work towards the well-being of the society and hence the individual. It develops social and civic responsibility among students.

NSS REGULAR REPORT FROM JUNE 2024

The NSS Programme Officers and the NSS Volunteers took part in an oath taking programme on 05.06.2024 at 10.00 a.m. in the College campus on “World Environment Day”.

The National Service Scheme and the Department of Physical Education of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College observed the International Yoga Day on 21.06.2024 by organizing a Mass demonstration programme to the NSS Volunteers and Other students on Yogasanas, Pranayam and Meditation. The NSS Ms. K.Padmavathy , Dept. of Tamil, the Yoga Instructor and Physical Director Ms.R.Nithya and Ms.P.Maheswari gave explanation for each Asana and its benefits as the Volunteers performed them. In this programme nearly 1000 students of our college including the 100 NSS Volunteers and yoga students participated and performed different types of Pranayams that nurtures and promotes good health.

The NSS Programme Officers and the NSS Volunteers took part in an oath taking programme on 26.06.2024 at 10.00 a.m. at our College premises near Gandhi Tree on Drug Abuse Awareness.

The NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College conducted competitions on the occasion of “Plastic Bag Free Day” on 03.07.2024. Various events were conducted for the NSS Volunteers and the NSS Programme Officers explained about the harmfulness caused by the Plastics. Nearly 50 volunteers participated and benefited

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College conducted a cleaning activity in collaboration with the Trichy City Corporation under the "Swachhata Scheme 2.0" at Butterworth Road, Purathana Park on 10.07.2024. Nearly 25 NSS volunteers participated in the initiative, actively sweeping the streets and removing garbage. Additionally, the volunteers took an oath to raise awareness about maintaining a clean environment.

The NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organised a Special Lecture program on "Education along with Patriotism" in Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26.07.2024. The chief guest was Mr.Havildar J.N.Shah (Retd. Non Commision Officer, Army Ordanance crops).. The chief guest commenced his session by elaborating the meticulous historic details about the Partition, War zones of Jammu and Kashmir and contributions of Indian Soldiers.. He also spoke about the women's contribution to the Indian Army and the Nation further he motivated the volunteers to join in defence and achieve great heights. Nearly 250 NSS volunteers participated in this programme.

The NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Tiruchirappalli, planted the tree saplings at the Adopted Villages under “'EK PED MAA KE NAAM” as per communication received from Regional Office. In this programme 30 NSS Volunteers and the NSS Programme Officers are participated

The NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Tiruchirappalli observed ‘World Nature Conservation Day" on 29.07.2024 at our college premises and took the pledge under the scheme of ‘EK PED MAA KE NAAM’ in order to prevent the nature calamities

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organised an Eye Screening Camp in collaboration with Maxi Vision Super Speciality Eye Hospital for Students, Teaching Staff and Non Teaching Staff on 30.07.2024 at 9.30.a.m. The Camp was organised at the R.V.Auditorium of the college campus. Maxi Vision Eye Hospital team provided services like free eye checkup, eye care education and medical care. All the first year Students, Faculty members and Non Teaching Staff of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College participated and benefitted from this tests.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College celebrated National Handloom Day on 07.08.2024. The NSS volunteers visited classrooms to disseminate information about the history and cultural significance of India's handloom sector and Khadi fabrics. They also took a pledge to promote the use of handloom products and enhance awareness about their importance.

The NSS volunteers visited classrooms to disseminate information about the history and cultural significance of India's handloom sector and Khadi fabrics. They also took a pledge to promote the use of handloom products and enhance awareness about their importance.

On 12.08.2024, the NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organized an Oath taking programme on the occasion of the “Anti Drug Awareness”. In this programme our NSS Programme Officers and 50 NSS Volunteers participated and took the oath under the Gandhi tree at our College premises.

The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University,Trichy organised a Flag Distribution programme under "Har Ghar Trianga" on 13.08.2024. In this programme the Vice chancellor of BDU, the NSS Co-ordinator, the Controller of Examination gave a speech about the importance of patriotism, in future the volunteers are the pillar of the nation and they have to support and taken steps to develop our country in a success manner. At an end session the national flags are distributed to the Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers.

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organised ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme on the eve of Independence day 14.08.2024 at R.V.Auditorium. National Flags were distributed to the NSS Volunteers. A Patriotic speech about the History of Indian National Flag was delivered by the NSS Programme Officers. Sacrifices of National leaders were highlighted.

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College conducted a 'Sanitary Napkin distribution and awareness Programme ' on 14.08.2024 to break the superstitious myths and raise awareness about the importance of Menstrual hygiene among young Girls. In this event Chemical free cotton Sanitary Napkins were distributed to the NSS volunteers.

On 20.08.2024, the National Service Scheme Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy took an oath under “Sadbhavana Diwas”. In this programme 50 NSS Volunteers and Programme officers participated.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, along with the Indian Postal Service, Trichy Division, organized a special Aadhar camp on 03.09.2024. The camp provided services for registering biometric details, making corrections to Aadhar cards, and updating mobile numbers and email IDs, all with the required proof documents. This initiative was beneficial to students, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff.

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College visited the adopted village of Thiruvallari on 04.09.2024. NSS volunteers conducted a Rally to raise awareness about Rainwater harvesting, using placards and shouting slogans. Additionally, as part of the 'EK PED MAA KE NAAM' initiative, saplings were planted, and villagers were encouraged to protect and nurture them.

The National Service Scheme of Srimathi Indira Gandhi College visited the adopted village of Thiruvellarai on 04.09.2024. The first week of September, is observed as the Nutrition Week and to commemorate it, the faculty and students of department of Biochemistry conducted health check-ups for rural women, provided necessary advice to those with anemia, and explained how to consume nutrient-rich foods

The National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and the Indian Postal Service jointly organized a special lecture program on the topic 'Postal Life Insurance and Savings Plans' on 06.09.2024. Mrs. Banumathi, Assistant Superintendent of Post Office, Trichy Division, and Mrs. Priyanka, Development Officer, were the resource persons. The gathering was welcomed by Ms. Vidhya, II Biochemistry. The resource persons elaborated on the importance of savings plans and employment opportunities in the postal service across India. They also encouraged the volunteers to invest early for a better future.

On 16.09.2023, the NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organized an Oath taking programme on the occasion of the “Social Justice Day”. In this programme our NSS Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers participated and took the oath at our College Ground.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College conducted an oath-taking ceremony on 25.09.2024, under the guidance of the Regional Director. The event took place at the college's heritage site, the Gandhi Tree. During the ceremony, program officers and NSS volunteers pledged to promote the importance of Swachhata (cleanliness) in their community service initiatives.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning program on 26.09.2024, under the initiative 'Swachhata Hi Seva,' following communication from the Regional Director. The NSS volunteers were divided into two groups. One group visited Sevai Shanti Matric Higher Secondary School, where they participated in a bucket brigade to raise awareness about cleanliness, organized library books, cleaned the temple, and created wall paintings. Simultaneously, the second group went to K.N. Palayam to conduct a rally among villagers, promoting awareness of waste segregation by carrying placards and saying slogans about the importance of cleanliness.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning program on 27.09.2024, under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' initiative, following guidance from the Regional Director. Volunteers were divided into two groups. One group visited Thiruvellarai to clean the Kaalavaipatti nursery and conducted a rally promoting waste segregation, carrying placards and chanting slogans about cleanliness. The second group collaborated with the Trichy City Corporation at Purathana Park, sweeping the streets and removing garbage, ultimately collecting 100 kg of waste to hand over to the Corporation. These efforts highlighted the importance of cleanliness in their community service initiatives

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning program on 30.09.2024, as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' initiative, following the communication from the Regional Director. The NSS volunteers were divided into two groups. One group participated in the program held at Khajamalai Campus, Bharathidasan University, Trichy, where over 70 NSS volunteers and program officers took part in the rally. Additionally, a Drawing exhibition on cleanliness was organized for NSS volunteers at our college premises. Simultaneously, the second group conducted a cleaning activity at the famous Rockfort Temple, Trichy, on the eve of Navarathri Festival celebration. Over 60 NSS volunteers and the Program officers cleaned the Ambal Mandapam, Thayumanavar Mandapam, and Golu Mandapam, removing dust, cleaning pooja vessels, and washing the temple premises.

The National Service Scheme units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning programme on 01.10.2024, as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' initiative, following guidance from the Regional Director. Volunteers traveled to Thuraiyur, Pagalavaadi at the famous Ekanbareswar Temple, where they cleaned the temple and pooja vessels. They participated in a bucket brigade to promote awareness about cleanliness and created wall paintings. These efforts underscored the importance of cleanliness in their community service initiatives

The NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, rendered their service at the renowned Arulmigu Thayumanavasamy Rockfort Temple, Trichy, by counting hundial money on 08.10.2024. Around 40 NSS volunteers from our college participated in this program. The volunteers had the opportunity to witness coins from different countries, as well as age-old Indian coins, reflecting the remarkable glory of our past.

The Department of Social work at Shrimati Indra Gandhi College celebrated World Mental Health Day on 10.10.2024 with a hand print and signature campaign. The event featured smt.S.Aparna MBA, MPhil, Director of the college, as the chief guest, she inaugurated the campaign leave it the hand print and signature. Symbolizing her support for Mental Health awareness. Following her, Principal, Department Heads and NSS Volunteers actively participated. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about Mental Health and encourage everyone's well being.

The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University, Trichy organized the Pre- RD Parade Selection Camp on 22.10.2024. for the NSS Volunteers. In this programme Ms.R.Vasanthi, Dept. of Computer Science, the NSS Programme Officer accompanied the 2 NSS Volunteers are participated

On 28.10.2024 , the NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College organized an Oath taking programme on the occasion of the “Vigilance Awareness Day”. In this programme our NSS Programme Officers and 50 NSS Volunteers participated and took the oath near Gandhi Tree at our College premises

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning program on 28.10.2024, under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' initiative, the NSS Volunteers collaborated with the Trichy City Corporation at Market place at Chinthamani, sweeped the streets and removed garbage, ultimately collected around 45 kg of waste to hand over to the Corporation, promoting awareness of waste segregation. The volunteers did door to door campaigning to create awareness on safety measurements to be followed on Diwali and to avoid Air pollution, simultaneously conducted speech competition in Tamil & English over all 100 students participated , In Poem competition , 70 students participated and in Slogan writing 60 students participated. These efforts highlighted the importance of cleanliness in their community service initiatives.

The National Scheme (NSS) Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, organized a cleaning program on 29.10.2024, under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' initiative,the NSS Volunteers collaborated with the Traffic police at Mannachanallur, clearness the Traffic jam. Over 45 NSS volunteers went to Government School at Thiruvellarai, campaigns to raise awareness on Diwali safety and Air pollution, simultaneously volunteers were visited adopted village of Thiruvellarai conducted a Rally promoting waste segregation, carrying placards and chanting slogans about cleanliness. These efforts highlighted the importance of cleanliness in community service initiatives.
