About the Department

The Department was started in the year 2002. We offer B.Sc. Fashion Technology and Costume Designing, Diploma in Fashion Technology, Certificate course in Beauty Culture and Health Care, and certificate course in Tailoring and Embroidery. The department is functioning with 6 staff members all are well qualified with rich experience in teaching and industries, 3 are qualified with Masters in Technology, and one in Bachelor of Technology. Two has passed NET. The objective of the department is to equip the students with core competencies and skills in Clothing Technology and Fashion and hone them as competent professionals for the Apparel and Fashion Industry. The programme is structured to meet the technological and managerial needs of fashion industry and to take care of the need of placement.

Highlights of the Department

The Department has well equipped laboratories for Pattern Making, Garment Construction, Quality Control , Wet Processing & Textile CAD.

The Department has strong links with the apparel industries located in Tirupur, Coimbatore, Chennai and Bangalore & Research Institutions (Central Silk Board & Karnataka Silk Weaving Factory).

The department of fashion Technology has taken an initiative step to create design for Handloom Weavers Co-op Societies (under the control of Department of Handloom & Textiles) Chennai under “Industry-Institution-Interaction –Innovative Initiative Programme.

Our students have released a “Book of Designs” for Handloom Silk and have also created a new saree line named Trichy Kala Parampara.

Students attend internships and go on industrial visits regularly.

Most of them are employed in the industry as fashion designers, entrepreneurs, beauticians production officers, export managers, merchandisers and quality controllers.

Skill enrichment programmes, women empowerment outreach programmes, through training in pattern making, printing, painting, embroidery, tailoring, soft toy making, jewellery making, garland making and apparel enrichment is a regular feature of the department.

The department has successfully trained 12 batches of women in Srirangam in Tailoring and embroidery in association with the IECD of the Bharathidasan university and provided them with certificates as a women empowerment gesture.

They constructed a very long garment to showcase their talents.
