The department was established in the year 1984. B.A English was started in 2009. Certificate programme in Functional English was started in 2018. There are 21 faculty members in the department. 2 of them are doctorates, 3 have passed SET / NET, and 2 are pursuing Ph.D.

Keeping in view the principles of language learning and teaching, the course adopts an interactive approach to teaching the language.
A bridge course is conducted for all the new entrants every year for a week.
There is an exclusive language lab to improve the English communication skills of the students and staff members.
The department nurtures the English language usage through competitions, book reviews and screening of literary movies.
