MAY 2013

13th to 28th

The Departments of Computer Science, IT & Applications and Master of Computer Applications (MCA - AICTE Approved) conducted a Short Term Programme on Office Automations Packages & Internet Concepts for Lawyers for the I Batch from 13.05.2013 to 28.5.2013 and for the II Batch from 12.6.2013 to 29.6.2013.

JUNE 2013

22nd	The Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing organized an Inter - Departmental Mehandi Kondattam for all UG Students on 22.6.2013. As usual the Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing with the help of senior students accorded a warm welcome to the new entrants by adorning their hands with "Mehandi" Designs. This Mehandi Kondattam establishes a good rapport between the senior and junior students of various disciplines. About 150 senior students decorated the palms of 1500 junior students with intricate motifs. While traditional mehandi designs cropped up here and there, the Arabic designs are all the rage. This creative reception helped the first year students to shed their inhibitions and make fast friends with seniors. The event is also a learning experience for the juniors about mehandi application techniques; for seniors, it is an opportunity to display their skills.
24 to 28	The Department of English conducted a Bridge Course in English for the Newcomers from 24.6.2013 to 28.6.2013. The Resource Persons were Prof. G. Balakrishnan, Former Vice - Principal and Head, Department of English, St. Joseph's College, Trichy and Mr. S. Mahendra Prabu, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies. The Main objective of the course was to motivate the students to develop positive thinking and interest towards spoken English. The resource persons spoke about the significance of the Bridge Course which is an opportunity to become familiar with English language and also advised the students to develop self-confidence. They also emphasizzed the importance of etiquette for students in all walks of their life.
29th	National Service Scheme, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Consumer Behaviour, Tiruchirappalli and National Service Scheme, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College Jointly organized an Awareness Programme on "Food Protection and Quality Assurance Act" on 29.6.2013. Thiru. David Muthuraj, Food Safety Officer, Tiruchirappalli Corporation was the Chief Guest. He explained about the customer rights, quality of products their price, manufacturing date, expiry date and how to find out the fake ones.

JULY 2013

6th	The Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing conducted an Inter-Departmental Competition on "Hair Dressing" at Vidya Seva Ratnam K.Santhanam Auditorium on 6.7.2013. Around 55 students of various disciplines participated in the competition. Mrs. Malathi Prabhakaran, Cantonment Ladies Club, Trichy was the judge for the competition. The participants dressed with various hair styles like traditional wear, party wear, bridal wear, Casual wear, French roll, Macram Knot, Birds nest, etc., This competition paved the way for the students to exhibit their hidden talents. The best participants were awarded prizes.
8th	The Department of Management Studies conducted a Day - Long Placement Training Programme on "Talentism" on 8.7.2013. Shri. Ravindran Sambandham, Director and Thiru. G. Senthil Kumar, Manager, Human Resources Nokia India Private Limited, Chennai was the Chief Guest. He ignited a new sparkle that was potent enough to kindle the passion for leadership in the students. Attributing talentism as a new capitalism the entire training had been modular as visual presentations encapsulated under different themes such as Art, Philosophy, passion, purpose, winning eye, Discovering the strength. There is nothing secret about the secret of success and when going gets tough, the tough gets going. The entire session sensitized the students' goal focus.
10th	The Department of Management Studies, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India and The Institute of Cost Accountants of India jointly organized an "Investor Awareness Programme" on 10.7.2013. Dr.CMA.T.K.Sridhar, Cost Accountant gave be an Investments are deceitful business investments, named after "Charles Ponzi' who fleeced away huge money from the public by insighting dubious investments to illegitimate business. The presentation was helpful in identifying good investment avenues. He enlighted the students with the caption "Make money work for you instead of working for money". This programme has thrown light on the investment avenues which lure the investors by promising attractive returns. Advantages and disadvantages of different investment avenues were also discussed.
17th	The Department of Hospital Administration and National Service Scheme conducted an Awareness Programme on "How to prevent Diabetes Mellitus" on 17.7.2013. Dr. P. Giri, Consultant Nephrologist, Trichy was the Chief Guest. He clearly explained the meaning of Diabetes Mellitus, types, causes, signs and symptoms, preventive measures and treatment given for Diabetes Mellitus. He also explained the chart to prevent Diabetes Mellitus.

AUGUST 2013

1st	The inauguration of all Associations, Installation of the Office Bearers of the College Union, Distribution of Book Bank Cards to the Physically Challenged Students and the Valediction of the Bridge Course was held at 11.00a.m. on 1.8.2013 in the R.V. Auditorium. The Chief Guest was Mrs. Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Trichy Division. In her address she laid stress on women's emancipation by asking them to develop self confidence to face day to day life. She also spoke about the safety measures to be adopted by the young girls wherever they are. Earlier she installed the Office Bearers for this academic year (2013 - 2014). She also distributed the book bank cards to three physically challenged students. She then gave away the certificates for the participants of the Bridge Course. Prof. G. Balakrishnan, Retired Vice principal. St. Joseph's College and the Co-ordinator for the Bridge Course offered felicitations.
6th	The Department of Physics conducted a Lecture Programme on "Growth Organic, Inorganic and Semi Organic Single Crystals for Technological Applications" on 6.8.2013. Dr. N. Vijayan, Scientist, National Physical Laboratory (CSIR, Govt. of India), New Delhi was the Chief Guest. He started his lecture with the introduction to various crystal growth methods such as solution, vapour and melt techniques. He elaborated the concepts based on piezoelectric single crystals, bridgmann Technique, CZOCHRALSKI method, Non-Linear single crystals and uses of single crystals by quoting day to day examples with the help of various slides. He concluded his lecture by mentioning the areas of applications of single crystals in making quartz watches, artificial diamonds, solar cells, laser cutting tools, detectors in medical field and society-oriented applications like mosquito mats and low power lasers.
6th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 6.8.2013. Ms. M. Bharani, Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry, was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture explained the importance of Communication Skills, Differentiated strength and weakness of students and gave tips for facing interviews and presenting ideas.
7th	The Department of Microbiology conducted an Inter-Departmental Competition on "Fireless Cooking - Salad preparation" on 7.8.2013. Dr. Celin Rajendrasingh, Retd. Professor & Head, Department of Botany, Holy Cross College and Mrs. Sumathi Muruganantham, Principal, Genius Play School were the judges. In the present days, instead of hygienic and nutritious food prepared at home, children look for fast foods which has no value. Keeping this in view the students were asked to prepare a variety of dishes. 74 students presented their salads with fruits, vegetables, greens etc., Among these chocolate fruit salad, milk shake with salad, puffed rice salad, vegetable salad, icecream salad were unique in taste.
7th	The Department of Mathematics conducted a Lecture Programme on "Three Fundamental Theorems in Banach Space Theory" on 7.8.2013. Dr. S. Lalithambigai, Assistant Professor, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was the Chief Guest. She started her lecture with a brief introduction about last upper bound property, completeness property and banach space. Then she proceeded with the three fundamental theorems of Banach space - open mapping theorem, uniform boundedness principle and closed graph theorem. She gave an alternative method of proving these theorems in a simple manner by applying zabrereik's Lemma.
8th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 8.8.2013. Mrs. S. Ambika, Lecturer, Department of Physics, was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture Programme, explained the concept of using the prefixes and suffixes with various examples. She also explained the logical reasoning with examples.
8th	The Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing conducted an "Inter - Departmental Saree Draping Competition for the students of various disciplines on 8.8.2013. 55 students from all the departments participated in the Competition. The participants used cotton, silk, synthetic and Designer Saree and exhibited their talents and Creativity in different styles like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarath, Marathi, Malaysia and Srilanka This saree parade paved the way to improve the creativity of the students and their involvement towards our culture. By this competition the younger generation also realized the importance and elegance of saree wearing. Mrs. Dhanalakshmi Suresh, Secretary, Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organizations and Mrs. Alamelu Mangai Subramaniam, Vice President, Southern Railway Womens Welfare Organizations, Trichy, were the judges for the Competition.
8th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 10.8.2013. Ms. M. Bharani, Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture Programme, explained the importance of knowledge, emotion and passion. She also gave some topics for group discussion. The Department of English conducted an "Elocution, Essay and Poetry writing Competition" for all the I Year UG Students on 10.8.2013. The UG students nearly 25 in number competed with one another and excelled in the contests. The following were the Prize Winners :- The Department of Yoga organized a Demonstration on Yoga on 10.8.2013 in the presence of Dr.K.Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy, Shri. S. Savari Muthu was the Chief Guest. He explained how yoga, increases the energy level. By spending less energy one can gain more energy. It is easy to obtain strength for life and make all glands function perfectly. Yoga helps to have a sound mind and sound body. The yoga art helps to attain perfection in Education which develops discipline and good character. In the International level and in the medical field the Research on Yoga is successfully proved.Ms. K. Gomathi, Lecturer, Department of Yoga proposed the vote of thanks.
12th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 12.8.2013. Ms. A. Kavitha, Lecturer, Department of Mathematics was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture Programme, explained the Arithmetic progression. She gave various problems for the students to work out.
13th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 13.8.2013. Ms. A. Kavitha, Lecturer, Department of Mathematics was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture Programme, explained about direct and indirect inverse variation and gave problems to the students to work out.
14th	The Career Guidance and Placement Cell conducted a Lecture Programme on "Development of Soft Skills" on 14.8.2013. Ms. S. Ambika, Lecturer, Department of Physics was the Chief Guest. She in her Lecture explained how to spot the error in sentences with examples. The Department of English conducted a Special Lecture Programme on "Job Opportunities in the field of Media" on 4.8.2013. Mr. R. Kumar, Senior News Editor, 'Dinamalar', Chennai was the Chief Guest. He gave an insight about journalism and the various job opportunities open for those who wish to pursue it. The youth of today are faced with so many options open to take up as their career. This lecture will be an eye-opner for our III Year students, who wish to take up media as their future plan. The means to catch up with this profession was very clearly briefed. The programme ended with an interaction with students.
15th	The Independence Day was celebrated on 15.8.2013 in the college premises. Shri.Thotta P.V. Ramanujam, Our President hoisted the National Flag in the presence of the Secretary. Ms. B.Padmapriya, Lecturer in Tamil delivered the Independence Day Address in which she urged the students to be disciplined and patriotic. She gave several examples of patriotic women of the past to highlight her views. Two speeches in Tamil and one in English were delivered by the students. The celebrations came to an end with the distribution of Mementos to the Speakers and sweets to all.
19th	The Department of Chemistry conducted a Lecture Programme on "Electrochemistry and its application" on 19.8.2013. Dr. N. Mathiyalagan, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Jayaram Engineering College, Thuraiyur was the Chief Guest. He highlighted the techniques in normal methods and advanced methods of Electrochemistry. He also spoke about the biological importance of Electrochemistry. He conveyed the message that the Electrochemistry can be used in qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis and dialysis.
21st	The PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Technology & Applications and Computer Applications conducted a Guest Lecture Programme on "Green Cloud Computing" on 21.8.2013. Dr.C.Kavitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Thiruvalluvar Govt. Arts College, Rasipuram, Namakkal was the Chief Guest. She gave valuable information about definition of Cloud Computing, Models, Classifications of Cloud Service, Architecture of Cloud Computing, Advantages, Cloud Security etc., making cloud as Green.
23rd	The PG and Research Department of Social Work conducted a Lecture Programme on "Counselling" on 23.8.2013. Ms. K. Vijaya, Lecturer, Department of Social Work was the Chief Guest. She gave a talk on Reproductive system and developmental stages of adolescents. She also discussed about physical and psychological problem during the phase. She concluded providing various mental health techniques to overcome the barrier which prevents positive mental development among adolescents.
26th	The PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Technology & Applications and Computer Applications conducted a Guest Lecture Programme on "Cryptography" on 26.8.2013. Dr.K.Mani, Professor, Department of Computer Science, Nehru Memorial College, Puthanampatti was the Chief Guest. He explained about cryptography types of cipher, Hill cipher algorithm, play fair cipher, Vernam cipher Transposition cipher. Modern Cryptographic Algorithms, public key encryption. RSA Algorithm and ceasar cipher.
26th	The National Service Scheme conducted a Lecture Programme on "Personality Development" on 26.8.2013. Ms. Mala Jeyaprakash, Regional Manager, World Social Sevai Sangam, Trichy was the Chief Guest. She spoke on the ways to develop one's personality by shedding away fears, gaining confidence to meet any challenges that come across the way towards attaining a successful.
27th	The Department of Biochemistry conducted a Guest Lecture Programme on "micro RNA : Small regulators with a big impact on Diabetes and its complications" on 27.8.2013. Dr. Shanmugam Nargunaraja, Professor and Head, Department of Biomedical Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy was the Chief Guest.The focus area of the lecture was about the role of micro RNA in prevention of Diabetes and Atherosclerosis and also how micro RNA can be used as a novel drug for Diabetes in future.
30th	The Fine Arts Club conducted a Lecture Programme on "The Introduction of Folk Arts" on 30.8.2013. Dr. S. Manali Soman, Associate Professor, Head, Department of Tamil, Bishop Heber College, Trichy was the Chief Guest. He stressed the importance of folk songs in our day to day life starting from lullaby to graveyard. Through his folk melody he made the session enjoyable and broughtout the significance of music that is inseparable from human beingsas music is born within everybody's self.
31st	Shrimati Indira Gandhi College has been founded with a mission to foster Higher Education and upliftment of women in society and with the aim to empower women to achieve economic independence in their life through employment. The college with a glorious history of 30 years has made rapid progress and has achieved NAAC Re-Accreditation at the A+ Level. As on date, the college offers 44 programmes of study at the UG, PG and Research levels and has earned a name as one of the premier educational institutions of Trichy. The Career Guidance and Placement cell of the college gives regular training to students by experts from the industry, for acquiring aptitude skills, technical and soft skills, gaining knowledge of various interviewing techniques and training on personality development, with the only mission of enabling as many students as possible to get placed in suitable positions relevant to their areas of study, every year. These programmes have helped the students in getting placed in various organizations, and industries. One such training programme was recently organized in association with Aharam services, Chennai in the college premises for the final year U.G and P.G students of Computer Science, Information Technology and Computer Applications. Around 400 U.G and P.G students attended the training programme. Mr. C.A. Sabarinath, Director, Aharam Services, Chennai provides facilities for arrangement of campus interviews, placement festivals/ drives and placement training programmes in colleges in South India. He also recruits students for various positions in the industry through interviews conducted on behalf of industries and organizations. Mr. J. Thulasi Dharan, is working in the Corporate Social Responsibility and Employee Engagement Department of MPhasis, Bangalore. He has four years of industry experience and has delivered training in personality development of students of Engineering colleges and Arts & Science Colleges in South India. During the session, the speaker motivated the students to communicate about themselves and their ideas about placement. He also provided them with specific inputs that helped them in getting awareness about employability skills needed for getting employed in industries, current trends in industry and technology and how to acquire these skills during their college life. He also cited several examples to help them learn how to manage situations in the corporate, how to conduct themselves before employers and how to develop a positive attitude to shine in their career. The programme was very useful to students. Students received a shift in their perception towards a career and getting placement.
31st	The Valedictory Function of Indira Gandhi Memorial Inter - Collegiate Oratorical Contest in English and Tamil and Muthamizh Vizha was held on 31.8.2013 at 5.30p.m in the R.V. Auditorium. Shri.S.Kunjithapatham, Secretary, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy welcomed the gathering. Ms. M. Rema Vice - Principal & Head, Department of English gave a brief Introduction about the programme. Giving away the prizes and cash awards to the winners, the chief guest Mr. R. Gunasekaran, Deputy Director, Fine Arts academy, Chennai delivered the special address and inspired the seats of the audience with his enchanting words and motivated the students to take part in the forthcoming competitions. The day was alive with the great performances of the students. The Overall shield exclusively for oratorical contest was bagged by the Sengamala Thaayar Educational Trust Women's College, Mannargudi and the Overall shield for Muthamizh Vizha was bagged by the Bharathidasan Constituent College, Orathanadu. Ms. M. Sivasankari, Lecturer, Department of Tamil proposed the vote of thanks.

SEPTEMBER 2013

2nd	PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Technology & Applications and Computer Applications conducted a Guest Lecture Programme on "Soft Computing - A Practical Approach" on 2.92013. Dr. K. Manikandan, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, P.S.G. College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest. He explained the Neural Network, Artificial Intelligence Soft Computing, Components, Applications, Character recognizer Genetic Algorithm, Optical Swam Optimization, Fuzzy Logic, Fuzzy Logic Not, AND, OR, Controller, inference.
6th	The Department of Hospital Administration conducted a One Day Workshop on "Healthcare Services" on 06.09.2013. Dr.S.Chitra, Gynecologist, Lalitha Nursing Home, Trichy was lighting the Kuthu Vizhakku and she gave a talk on "WISH" (Women In Sanitation and Hygiene), reproductive system and how to keep ourself clean during menstruation. In the Second session, Dr.Shaista Sivakumar, Head L&D, Kavery Group of Hospital, Trichy gave a topic on "Strategic Role of HR in Healthcare Industry". In the Third Session, Dr.R.Mathrubootham, Paediatrician, Lalitha Nursing Home, Trichy delivered a talk on "Newborn Care and Breast Feeding".In the Fourth Session, Dr.Rajmohan, Opthalmologist, Joseph Eye Hospital, Trichy, talk on "Lasers in Opthamology". He explained about the types of lasers, its uses, treatment and surgeries related to eyes and diabetes mellitus. In the Fifth Session, Dr.S.Srinivas, Physician & Diabetologist, Vijaya Hospital, Trichy, delivered a talk on "Obesity related to Cardiac Problems". He explained about obesity BMI values, various factors for obesity, stress and its risk, Heart disease, Gastro Intestinal diseases. In the Valediction function on 4.30 p.m in MCA A/C Seminar Hall. Dr. V.Jeyapal, Chairman, GVN Hospital, Trichy delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the students. Dr.S.Vidhyalakshmi, Principal welcomed the gathering Shri.S.Kunjithapatham, Secretary delivered the presidential address. Ms.S.Gandhimathi, Lecturer, Dept. of Hospital Administration proposed the vote of thanks.
11th	On behalf of the fine arts club Onam celebrated on 11.9.2013. Students of various departments dressed themselves is Kerala Heritage costume and Pookolam ie. Floral decoration was made by the students. Kuthuvilakku was lighted by the students at the centre of the pookolam. The celebration reveals the brotherhood of our culture accepting the customs of other states also.
21st	The Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing and Entrepreneurship of Development Cell (EDC) conducted a Workshop on "Garland Making" for the students of various disciplines. Some of the students were trained by the faculty members of the department and they numbering around 120 were motivated to train 186 student participants. The participants were given training to the different types of flower arrangement using variety of flowers like rose petals, jasmines, zeribro, astress, golden rod etc., Artificial ribbon roses were added to the garland for decorative purpose together with the colour spray. This workshop helped to motivate the participant to become entrepreneurs. This also gave a chance for them to display their creative skills.
24th	The Department of Economics conducted a Lecture Programme on "Role of Entrepreneur in Economic Development" on 24.9.2013. Ms. Srividhya, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Rajah Sarafoji Governement College, Thanjavur was the Chief Guest. She explained on role of entrepreneur in economic development and importance, nature and recent developments in entrepreneurship as well as women entrepreneurs and their involvement by using information technology like websites and insisted about technology support for our further development.
25th
25th	The Department of Biochemistry conducted a Guest Lecture Programme on "Recombinant DNA Technology" on 25.9.2013. Dr.S.Maneemegalai, Assistant Professor and Principal i/c, Department of Biochemistry, Bharathidasan University Constituent College for Women, Orathanadu was the Chief Guest. He focused on Recombinant DNA Technology and its applications. She also explained about it role in the production of Insulin, stem all therapy, cancer therapy and its industrial application, Students of Biochemistry got benefited from this programme.
25th	The PG & Research Department of Computer Science, Commerce, Mathematics, Management Studies and Tamil jointly organized a Special Lecture Programme on "Use of ICT in Research and Development" on 25.9.2013. Dr.K.Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy was the Chief Guest. She explained the objectives of Research, "What is meant by ICT?. She insisted that the term ICT is used to refer to the convergence of Audio - Visual and telephone networks with Computer Networks through a single cabling or link system. She also discussed about Enhancement of Research & Development, Need of the hour, Academic Reputation, Industrial Academic Co-operation, Research Proposals and Qualitative Research. She highlighted the use of information and communication technology in the field of Socio economic development, international development and social work. She also explained about versatility of ICT and way, to reach out the world. She clarified the doubts raised by the students. The scholars found the session was highly informative and useful.
27th	The Department of Economics conducted a Lecture Programme on "How to prepare for UPSC Examination" on 28.9.2013. Dr.S.Iyyampillai, Chair Person, School of Commerce and Economics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli was the Chief Guest. He remarked that hard work and the mindset with the formulated strategy is very much necessary for appearing for the UPSC Examination. He also emphasized that latest trends regarding political and economic situation should be concentrated. General Awareness through Newspapers, Magazines, News Channel etc., must be enhanced.
28th	The Department of Biochemistry conducted an inter-departmental Exhibition on "Foods cooked with cereals" for the students of various disciplines on 28.9.2013.. The theme of the food exhibition was preparation of food items using traditional cereals such as Ragi, Oats, Maize, Corn, Black rice, Varagu, Handmade rice, Handmade rice flakes wheat, Barley etc., as one of the main ingredient. Wholegrain cereals are a rich source of many essential vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Low in saturated fat but is a source of PUFA, including omega-3 linolenic acid high in both soluble and insoluble fibre, excellent source of carbohydrates, significant source of protein, a good source of B group vitamins, antioxidants and phytochemicals. Many minerals, such as iron, magnesium, copper, phosphorus and zinc are also present. Cereals and wholegrain foods can reduce the risk of developing certain diseases, including coronary heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, lower blood cholesterol levels and diverticular disease. More than 90 students from various departments participated and displayed their food items with its nutritional importance. The exhibition started at 11.00a.m. The staff members and students of various departments visited the exhibition and got benefited. The highlights of the food items displayed were Ragi panipuri, Ragidosa, Sweet kavuni Rice, Black rice pongal, wheat sundal, wheat payasam, ragi adai, ragi puttu, ragi boli. Navathaniya chappati, Varagu biriyani, oats payasam, kambu kozhukattai, wheat biriyani, Barley avail multigrain laddu, Ragi juice etc.
30th to 1st	The Department of Library conducted a Book Exhibition Cum Sale on 30.9.2013 and 1.10.2013. Shri.S.Kunjithapatham, Secretary inaugurated the Exhibition. Six famous Book Sellers displayed Books in the Exhibition. Some various books in displayed like General Knowledge, Competitive Exam, Story Books, Yoga Books, Cookery Books, Religion Books, Historical Books and Subject Books etc.,All UG and PG Students and Staff members of various disciplines have visited and bought books for their personal use of the exhibition.

OCTOBER 2013

4th	The Department of Sanskrit conducted a Lecture Programme on "Moral Values" on 4.10.2013. Sri.K.V.Balakrishnan, Rtd. Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, Trichy was the Chief Guest.He stressed the need for positive thought, its excellence and the need for the removal of hinderance if any. In SWOT Analysis, he explained the need to recollect our strength, diminish our weakness, explore our opportunities and avoid our threats. He beautifully putforth the story of Hanuman in Sundara Kanda of how he realized his potential and reached Lanka. Similarly he wanted all to explore the inherent potential with full dedication and devotion.

Total communication process, Why we are not listening? Levels of Listener, Reflective and Physical listening and Active Listening etc.
5th	The PG Department of Social Work conducted an Awareness Programme on "OSTOMY" on 5.10.2013 at Ramakrishna Nursing Home, Trichy. Dr. T. Ramani Devi, Ramakrishna Nursing Home, Trichy was the Chief Guest. She explained about Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment aspects. She insisted on early diagnosis and counseling techniques. Forty pregnant women were benefited through this programme. Pamphlets on early intervention were also distributed to the participants.
7th	The Department of Microbiology conducted a Demonstration on "Types of Staining Fungi and protozoan Identification and Electrophoresis Techniques" on 7.10.2013. Isolation and Identification of Fungi and Protozoa - Giemsa & PAS staining Techniques. Different types of staining techniques - Simple, Gram, Capsular, Endospore, Acid fast staining methods and Electrophoresis technique - principle, working mechanism, operation setup arrangement, programme & appropriate samples were used for demonstration. Live demonstration on Techniques was also given Ms. C. Vinothini, Ms. H. Rajalakshmi, Ms. S. Bhuvaneswari, ms. N.S. Bhuvaneswari, Ms. A. Thamizharasi, Ms. E. Shakthi Priya were the Resource Persons. Students actively participated in this demonstration with Enthusiam and gained knowledge about the basic techniques.

Dr. G. Thirumoorthy, Chairman and Mr. T. Manikandan, Managing Director, Kalyani Covering, Trichy were the Chief Guests. The training was given by the trainer Mr. K. Manuraj, Chairman, I-Plus Organisation of State President, Association of Engineers. He trained the employees to reduce fear and anxiety in the field of sales, which motivated them to work effectively.
8th	The Department of Biochemistry conducted an Outreach Programme on "Know your Physique" on 8.10.2013 at Bharathidasan University Constituent College for Women, Orathanadu, to take a survey of Body Mass Index (BMI) of college going Adolescent Girls, as a measure of health fitness. The height and weight of students were measured and BMI was calculated. Around 750 students of 13 Departments of the college took part in the health survey. By way of encouragement 15 students out of 750 with accurate BMI were identified and rewarded.
9th	The Department of Mathematics organized an Exhibition on "Fun with Numbers" on 9.10.2013. Dr. N. Ramanujam, UGC Emeritus Fellow, Department of Mathematics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the exhibition and delivered the inaugural address. He explained about the fun with numbers with more fun. He advised the students to know more about the history of Mathematicians and revealed the history of the 21st Century Mathematician Mr. Shyam. He also said that "Mathematics is not the Queen of Science" but it is the "Mother of Science" as Maths can't get any contribution by any other subjects but can give its contribution to all subjects. He congratulated all the students for their performance.

Jehathambal, Headmistress, K.A.P. Viswanatham Primary School, Thillai Nagar, Trichy was the Chief Guest Various sports events like Athletics, Music Chair, Valley Ball and Shuttle Badminton were conducted. The students actively took part in the events. The Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the winners.

Middle School, Butterworth Road, Trichy. Ms. G. Bakyalakshmi, ICTC Counsellor, K.A.P.Viswanatham Medical and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt. Hospital, Trichy was the Chief Guest. She highlighted the aspects of mental health and the factors affecting mental health. She also emphasized the importance of mental health for a healthy life.
11th	The PG Department of Social Work conducted a Training Programme on "Jewellery Making for the Self Help Group Women" on 11.10.2013 at Athavathur, Trichy. Ms. Janani of II MSW taught various Jewellery Patterns like Stone, embedded necklaces, droppings, bracelets, beaded chains, etc., She also explained about the nuances of making jewellery and how to earn good income with less investment. Twenty Self Help Group Women were benefited through this training.
17th	The Youth Red Cross conducted an Outreach Programme on "Fire Safety Measures" on 17.10.2013 at govt. Higher Secondary School, Ettarai, Trichy. Mr. S. Radhakrishnan, Professor, St. John Ambulance, Trichy was the Chief Guest.He stressed the various precautions to be taken while working near fire places. He also spoke about the first aid to be taken for injured persons. Further he highlighted the various fire accidents occurring at various places due to the carelessness of the people. Fire may affect the skin, epidermis and even the bone. Waxy match boxes must be used properly and he also insisted on using the apron while cooking. He gave demonstrations regarding patients having high blood pressure and low blood pressure and suggested first aid instructions to control the same. He also explained how to arrest the poison spreading throughout the body by venomous snake bites. How to escape from fire accidents occurring all of a sudden? The Resource Person gave practical explanation for the question in detail. Finally, he concluded that each and every person must be aware of "Fire Safety Measures'. He also advised the students to create awareness not only among their friends but also in society.

The attenders of mentally ill inmates were given individual counselling. The staff members interacted with the family members and provided information about symptoms, causative factors and treatment aspects among the family members. The importance of Rehabilitation was also explained to them.

The speaker revisited the field of insurance right from its genesis, the traditional practices and the changes that took place from time to time, thanks to political and economic changes. In a remarkable way he capsulated the entire concept of insurance for the immediate grasp of students. While talking about the recent developments in Insurance sector, he dilated on the private initiatives and profit orientation in insurance business, with detailed illustration of attractive and promising insurance policies.
30th	The Department of Fashion Technology & Costume Designing and Entrepreneurship of Development Cell (EDC) conducted a Workshop on "Garland Making" for the Staff members of Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sri Sankara Matriculation School and Santhanam Vidyalaya on 30.11.2013. Around 80 staff members participated. Different types of flower arrangements using a variety of flowers like rose petals, jasmines, zeribro, astress, golden rod etc., were taught to the participants. Artificial ribbon roses were added to the garland for decorative purpose together with the colour spray. The System analysts of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College Shri A.Krishnan and Shri K.Kandavel have given the training for programmers. In that, they have explained the various steps for software installation, Software trouble shooting, Web Browser, Web Server, User ID Creations and system maintenance. More than 20 programmers have participated and get benefited.

The Bharathidasan University IECD (Institute for Entrepreneurship & Career Development). Department of Fashion technology & Costume designing Shrimati Indira Gandhi College & Chief Minister Consituency (Srirangam) J.J Free tailoring centre jointly organized certificate course in Tailoring & Dress making for rural area women's so far 191 women trainee has been enlighted by this course. During their classes they learn how to construct the garments for children & women's & to create new styles in it. The Basic principles of sewing & Garment construction were also taught. By this training programme the students have been able to promote new ideas, which emphasize the creativity of students in Dress making & they also been motivated to become an entrepreneurs.

5th	Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and All Women's Organizations of Trichy conducted a Rally to Mark the International Women's Day. The Rally was flagged off by Tmt. R. Jayenthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), Trichy City. Dr. K. Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bhrathidasan University, Trichy administered the Oath. Tmt. Charubala R. Thondaiman and Tmt. S. Sujatha, former Mayors of Tiruchirappalli Corporation also participated.
6th	To revive the traditional culture of wearing half saree among the students and to develop the standard of living of the handloom weavers and also mark the Celebrations of Women's Day, the faculty wore handloom sarees and the students were dressed in handloom half-sarees.
8th	All Ladies Club of Tiruchirappalli and Shrimati Indira Gandhi College jointly organized a International Women's Day - 2014 at Hotel Femina, Trichy. Padmasri. Chithra Vishveswaran, Managing Trustee, Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts & President, Association of Bharathanatya Artists of India was the Chief Guest. Dr. K. Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy delivered the Presidential Address. Worshipful Mayor Mrs. R. Jeya, Tiruchirappalli Corporation delivered the Introductory Remarks.
15th	Mangaiyar Malar, Shirmati Indira Gandhi College and All Women's Organizations of Trichy jointly organized "Ullasa Oonjal - Festival for the Readers of Mangaiyar Malar" in the College Campus. Competitions like Debate, Singing, Bridal makeup, Salad Preparation, Face Painting, Mime, etc., were held for the Women Readers of Trichy. Dr.K.Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy delivered the Chief Guest Address and distributed the prizes in the Valediction held in the evening.
22nd	The Associations Day was celebrated on 22.3.2014. Smt. Veena Gayathri, Vice-Chancellor, Tamilnadu Music & Fine Arts University, Chennai delivered the Special Address and distributed the Prizes and Certificates.
23rd to 29th	Conducted a Special Camp for a Week from at Shanthi Sevai Matriculation School, Sirugamani, Trichy. Thiru P. Sona Selvam, Union President, Sirugamani was inaugurated the Camp. In the Valediction Function on 29.3.2014. Dr. Kovindaraj, Director, SEVAI, Trichy delivered the Valedictory Address. Mrs. G. Chitra, Headmistresses, Shanthi Sevai Matriculation School, Trichy offered felicitations.
24th	The Department of Management Studies conducted an Inter-Collegiate Meet on "STYX' 14" (Parade of Talent Arsenals). Shri S.Kunjithapatham, Secretary delivered the Valedictory Address and distributed the Prizes.
26th	IECD, Bharathidasan University, Department of Commerce, Business Administration and Bank Management jointly conducted a One Day Training Programme on "Promotion of Youth Entrepreneurship". Mr. C. Ramaswamy Desai, Project Manager, IECD, Bharathidasan University, Trichy delivered the valedictory Address.
31st	The Hostel Day was celebrated on 31.3.2014. Dr. K. Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Trichy delivered the Hostel Day Address and distributed the prizes and Mementos.
