Department Highlights
Students of III B. Sc Microbiology showcased their product VEGAN LEATHER in JIM- Innovation start up mela 5.0 conducted by St. Joseph Institution of Management, Trichy at St. Joseph College on 6th March 2023 and won first prize with a cash award of Rs.20,000/- under the guidance of Ms. K. Chitra devi. Students of III B. Sc Microbiology attended the Kick -Start: Bootcamp organised by MCC - MRF Innovation Park at Madras Christian College.
Our students received “Best Student Award” in the year 2021 and have published more than 18 papers in various International Reputed Journals. In addition, five of our staff members and seven students published a patent entitled “Extraction and Identification of Antibacterial and Antiviral compounds from Polyherbal extract with spices, an In-vitro and In-silico analysis” August 18th 2022. Department received “Best Department Award” in the year 2022.
Ms. G. Subashini and Ms. K. Chitra devi received patent for the invention “Artificial Intelligence based technique to analyse the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles” vide the Patent Office Journal No. 19/2022 dated 13.05.2022. Ms. K. Chitra Devi and Ms. G. Subashini received design patent for the invention of BIO-CHEM ANALYZER.
Ms. K. Chitra devi received patent for the invention “Machine Learning based approach to analyse the protein sequences in the diabetic patients and efficient segregation of types of diabetes” vide the Patent Office Journal No. 19/2022 dated 13.05.2022. K.Chitra devi published patent for “Production of Eco friendly Bioplastic cups from agro wastes”.
Ms. G. Subashini and Ms. K. Chitra Devi received patent for the invention “A Machine Learning based approach to plot graphs based on statistical data analysis of patients suffering from Cancer due to smoking” vide the Patent Office Journal No. 14/2022 dated 08.04.2022. Dr.S. Shanthi received one National Patent and one International Patent.
Ms. K. Chitra devi received Best Teaching Education Award from Ajantha Fine Arts IN 2016 and International Young Scientist Award from V.D Good, Chennai in 2019. She also received Best Teacher Award 2022 (Higher Educational Institutions Level) in recognition of valuable contribution to the academic community and the students by Institute of Scholars (InSc).
Dr. P. Priyadharsini acted as a reviewer for PLOS ONE Journals. Ms. K.Chitra devi acted as an Editor for the book series titled”Futuristic Trends in Biotechnology” May, 2023.
Our Department provide free consultancy and paid consultancy for the benefit of the society. Blood group identification camp was conducted every year under the consultancy of our staff members & income was generated. One of our staff members acted as a consultant for Vermicompost Project, Central University, and Thiruvaur.
Department have international and national MOU/LOC with the following organizations-Institute of Organic Polymer Material, Research and Centre of Smart Textile Technology, National Taipei University, Taiwan, Sastha Institute of Medical Technology, Friends Diagnostic Centre, Dr.Arunagiri Computer diagnostics, Biological & amp; Bioinformatics Research centre, Trichy for the purpose of Projects and Practical training.
Dr.S. Shanthi of our department is the coordinator of youth conclave and Training programme on health and healthy lifestyle under the scheme of Youth-led sustainable development programme. 2 lakhs fund sanctioned by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Ministry of youth affairs and sports, Government of India. 100 Students of our college and other colleges benefited.
Ms. G. Subashini Published a Book “Intellectual Property Rights” published by GCS Publishers, ISBN NO: 978-93-94304- 90-1 (2022). Ms. K. Chitra devi Published a Book “A text book of fundamentals of Environmental Science” published as well as INFLIBNET ISBN NO: 978-93-95331-18-0.
The department faculty was funded for research projects from the Government of Tamilnadu for student’s project Scheme through TNSCST and was awarded for the best project. The faculty members published several papers in peer reviewed, UGC Care list, Scopus and Web of Science journals and also have contributed chapters in books published by Elsevier publishers.
Final year students were recognized and grasped for various placements by most popular companies such as Vee Technologies, Omega healthcare, Clarus RCM, etc. Students are engaged with various Entrepreneurial, Research and Development skills through experts talk and hands on sessions.
